Proper prep is a must if you want to get rid of the pests. Failure to follow prep instructions is the main reason treatments fail. If you cannot do it yourself, contact our sister company, Bed Bug Prep NYC, for professional prep services. We will send you the correct instructions before your service. Here are the basics:
All people and pets must leave the treatment area for at least 2 to 3 hours after service (longer if you have asthma or breathing issues).
Clean and declutter — the more access you give, the better your results.
Never touch or move any pest control materials, baits, or traps.
Only return when surfaces are dry and the technician advises it is safe.
Do not use over-the-counter sprays or powders with our treatments.
Launder all bedding, linens, and clothing near beds in the hottest cycles. Place cleaned items in sealed bags.
Empty all drawers and closet bottoms in rooms being treated.
Remove everything from under beds. Discard or wash any infested items.
Pull all furniture at least 6 inches from the wall.
Remove pictures and curtains from the wall. Vacuum the backs of pictures. Wash or discard curtains.
Discard all cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, and clutter.
Vacuum thoroughly. Empty the vacuum outside.
Remove electrical outlet covers within 5 feet of beds or sofas.
Mattresses and box springs that are heavily infested should be discarded.
If using mattress covers, they must be zippered and sealed.
Do not put items back until your technician says it is safe (usually 10 days after last treatment).
If you cannot complete prep, ask us to refer a prep company.
Clean out all closets, including floors, shelves, and hanging items.
Empty drawers with woolens and stack them facing the same way.
Make baseboards accessible by moving small items and toys.
In kitchens and bathrooms with infestations, empty cabinets and store items in boxes on the floor.
Vacuum all carpets and baseboards. Pay special attention to pet hair.
For ongoing prevention, clean lint from laundry areas and heat ducts.
Store unused woolens in sealed bags or containers.
Store all food that is not in a can or jar in the refrigerator or sealed plastic containers for at least two weeks after service.
Repair holes in walls and around doors, or report them to management.
Move appliances at least 12 inches from the wall and clear all items from under sinks.
Move furniture away from radiators. Leave enough space for the technician.
Eliminate storage and clutter. Rodents hide and breed in these areas.
Do not touch baits or traps set by your technician.
Clean regularly and take out trash frequently.
Before cleaning rodent feces, ventilate the area for 30 minutes. Wear gloves. Spray droppings with disinfectant and wipe up. Wash hands thoroughly after cleaning.
Remove all items from cabinets and drawers in the kitchen and bathroom, including under the sink.
Remove all electrical outlet covers by sinks and cabinets so the technician can apply dust.
Pull out refrigerator and stove. Clean behind and around them.
Wash floors, walls, counters, and all cabinet surfaces.
Sweep and mop floors in kitchen and bathroom, focusing on baseboards.
All cabinets, drawers, and counters must stay empty until after your follow-up treatment.
People and pets must be out for 2 to 3 hours after service.
